The photo attached to this blog shows Dorcus Nanvuma with a little boy called Philomon . . Dorcus, is a nurse in Uganda. She first met Philomon when he was a patient in hospital. He was an 11 year boy who became paralysed after a football accident. After his discharge Dorcus decided to visit him at his rural village. She found him in dire conditions, lying on the floor without any sanitation nor dressings for his wounds. Dorcus was so horrified she continued to visit him af bringing him food, medical supplies and equipment that she provided from her salary. He and his mother lived in great poverty .

Rose Charities was able to assist with a wheel chair and other essential equipment, but it was Dorcus who took the time and expense and visited him as often as she could and helped with his physiotherapy and rehabilitation. She brought a lot of joy to his tragic life.

Sadly Philomon died suddenly during the covid epidemic. Inspired by Philomon and his will to live Dorcus has started her own small charity dedicated to helping other children living with disabilities in poverty. She donates part of her salary every month to this cause.

Dorcus has always shown exceptional qualities of dedication and leadership. She was the recipient of a Hillman Leadership Award and excelled as a student during her Nursing Degree. Today she is working in the ICU in a Kampala Hospital but remains an inspiring member of Rose Charities.
