The Hillman Medical Education Fund of Rose Charities

An effective way to strengthen a healthcare system in a developing country is to identify and support potential leaders and provide them with the skills and confidence to prepare them for future leadership roles.   In Kenya and Uganda many talented students miss the opportunity to reach their full potential through lack of funds and support.

In Uganda we work with The Dept of Family Medicine at Makerere University to strengthen Family Medicine in Uganda.  We provide scholarships for Faculty and Graduate Students to build capacity in the field.

In Kenya we work with the Kenyan Paediatric Association to recognize and support future leaders in medicine and Paediatrics in Kenya. We support the development of Pediatric webinars that reach several thousand healthcare providers.  We fund student research projects. We support the development of ETAT+ which is a course of Early Triage and Treatment of very sick Children who present at hospital. This course is now given to all medical students in Kenya

We fund health research projects of past and present Hillman Scholars, including a Breast Feeding Study in Kenya, a Child Malnutrition Study and Training in Rural Uganda, and an Ebola Preparedness Training and Study Program around Kampala. Many of our graduates have gone on to take up leadership roles in their field.

The Hillman Medical Education Fund of Rose Charities was started by Dr Elizabeth Hillman OC  who was awarded the Order of Canada for spent a lifetime helping children and supporting  pediatric education worldwide.
