Sunjum Jhaj from the University of British Columbia’s International Service Learning, http://students.ubc.ca/career/international-experiences/international-service-learning, just returned from a three week practicum at Stand Tall. She is the third student teacher, chosen from among many applicants, to complete part of her practicum at the school. She managed to do a remarkable job in a very short period of time with an open, flexible and very thoughtful attitude towards her learning experience. We look forward to receiving more talented teachers from UBC and to building a solid and long relationship with the International Service Learning Centre.
Here is what Sunjum wrote at the end of her final report:
“I believe that Stand Tall is providing its students with a quality education that they can be proud of. The teachers here make an effort to include hands-on, student-centred learning that engages the students and provides them with the opportunity to develop as learners. Particularly after my visit to the government-run school down the road, I really appreciate the effort that is put in to ensuring the high standard of education and manageable class sizes at Stand Tall. I am very appreciative of the teachers for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their school community and for sharing their classrooms with me. This experience has taught me so much about myself as an educator.”
