Haiti Nurses TrainingThe first hours in a baby’s life are critical, they need quick interventions to help them breathe and care to stay warm and safe. Haiti has one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates. After the earthquake, we asked the Haitian nursing authorities how we could help, and they responded by asking us for neonatal resuscitation training (NRP). Since then, we have sent 3 teams and trained over 40 nurses from hospitals and schools of nursing around Haiti. But more importantly, we have trained 8 Haitian trainers.

Rose Charities works hard at making our projects sustainable which is why we are thrilled to hear that our new trainers have started their own training program and the sessions are going very well. We have also been asked to continue coming to Haiti to expand the education to include the stabilization of babies after resuscitation.

How you can help: We need French language nursing textbooks. The School of Nursing in Jeremie still uses books printed in 1953! So if you would like to donate money towards a textbook, please donate through Canada Helps and select “Haiti” from the drop down menu. A good quality nursing text book is around $150 but any amount would be greatly appreciated!
