Rose Charities ‘Haiti Children and Youth’ project is preparing for it’s fourth Soccer Camp this August 2016!
We would like to introduce you to one of the Haitian volunteers who help make the annual Soccer Camp a success, Lucson. His story is an example of how this project and the Soccer Camp are impacting lives in Mirgaone, Haiti.
Lucson became an orphan by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The founder of this project, Jean Lubin, met Lucson the first year the Soccer Camp was held when he attended the camp. At that time he was 18 and feeling very hopeless about his future since he had not been able to attend school for two years. The project helped him return to school and provided him a goat to raise to earn income for school fees. Lucson has been working hard at his studies and has done well. He is in his second to last year of secondary school and hopes to receive his full baccalaureate certificate next year.
Lucson attended the second Soccer Camp but also started to volunteer at the camp by carrying water to the kitchen, assisting the cooks, setting up classrooms for the education sessions, etc. He did the same last year. As Lucson increased his involvement in the Soccer Camp, he developed leadership skills which lead to him to recently become a member of the Haitian project committee which plans and organize all project activities.
Lucson is one of many who have benefited from the Soccer Camp and other project activities.
